Economic deprivation is a political choice. There is evidence that the wealth divide and inequality is growing in London. The narrative that we are where we economically deserve to be doesn’t stand up to evidence of the quality of housing, additional education and health service needs, sports and social recreation facilities and general infrastructure in poorer areas of London compared to richer neighbourhoods. Deprivation can be as a result of circumstance and environment as much as individual fault.
With the Mayor’s plan to build new housing and infrastructure in London over the next ten years, there is a huge opportunity for developers to contribute to transforming neighbourhoods for local residents as well as including them in the subsequent economic development.
Project Do Good or Go Home
is about sharing the stories of individuals who have transformed their lives and economic prospects with the support of developers working in, and with, neighbourhoods to build new homes. Build Local
will provide a forum to tell and share these stories.
